I'm 18 and am going to college. If I enlisted in the guard for 3 years with a sapper unit near my hometown and went to sapper school and got out in my 3 years. Can I go active duty and get an option 40 contract to be a ranger?

The longer answer is that it is very, very unlikely for you to get option 40, because it's a non-prior service enlistment option. Option 40 is usually for those with no military experience, as they go right from Basic Training/AIT (or OSUT) to RIP. The option 40, is just that, an option. Unbenounced to you at the time was the fact that you can get an option 40 (or 18X for that matter) if your prior service. Big Army thinks they have you by the balls if you want to come back in, so they usually don't offer you those contracts. I'm 18 and am going to college.
